The modern beauty and wellness resort SPA VILLA is located in the idyllic Eichsfeld region in Thuringia and provides perfect tranquillity and relaxation for wellness enthusiasts. Whether in the spacious sauna area, during a soothing massage or in the fragrant Cleopatra bath, relaxation is a priority at the SPA VILLA.

The old half-timbered house from 1899 was completely renovated and has been open to guests since 2012. Distributed on three floors, you can find four treatment rooms, two rooms for couples' treatments, sauna, steam bath, infrared cabin, two relaxation areas and a rustic Swiss stone pine bed. Four stylish, modernly furnished spa suites are available for overnight guests, each with its own whirlpool and balcony.

Requirements

In hardly any other field of application, requirements for PA solutions are as extensive as in the hotel and hospitality industry. Well-balanced and natural background music in the reception area, the restaurant or in treatment rooms is a decisive factor in whether guests feel comfortable or not. The SPA VILLA beauty and wellness resort required a flexible multi-zone system that would allow for the distribution of specific recordings to the speaker lines in different areas of operation. Ceiling speakers had to blend in into the existing architecture of the building as well as possible and ensure high-quality music reproduction throughout the entire building. Special attention was paid to a simple and user-friendly operation, so that changing staff and guests were also able to use the system. Divided into eight individually controllable zones, the system now provides guest suites, spa areas and treatment rooms independently with soothing sounds and background music.

Solution

For this purpose, hotel owner Ingo Schmerbauch relied on a combination of unobtrusive hi-fi ceiling speakers EDL-82HQ and class D amplifiers PA-1850D, each with 8 x 50 W. The flush-mount speakers feature 20 cm (8") bass speakers with waveguide and 25 mm (1") silk domes and a flush fit protective metal grille. For even more inconspicuous mounting, some of the EDL-82HQ's grilles have been lacquered to match the ceiling colour. Additionally, ceiling speakers EDL-158 are used in the damp locations. Due to the heat resistance of up to 100 °C, they are ideally suited for the sauna area and/or damp rooms. In order to provide sound to the two guest suites on the top floor, ball speakers EDL-430/WS with perfect omnidirectional sound radiation were installed under the exposed half-timbered ceilings. An 8 x 16 multi-zone system from DATEQ serves as central matrix. This allows for the distribution of multiple sources to a maximum of 16 zones or outputs. The desired audio source and volume can be selected and adjusted individually via wall controllers in the guest suites.

Winner of the Thuringian Tourism Award

To show how new things can arise even from the current tense situation, the Thuringian Tourism Award 2020 was presented for outstanding ideas, approaches and business models that have emerged in times of lockdown. The SPA VILLA beauty and wellness resort was awarded the young talent prize 'Thinking about tomorrow today' and was thus recognised in particular for its ingenuity in times of corona-related restrictions.
