Line array systems, sound lines, column speakers: solutions for rooms with high demands on design and acoustics

Our column speakers for indoor and outdoor use: we stack 'em high!

Sometimes things have to be a little slimmer – large speaker systems don't fit in every building or architecture. Ceiling speakers need suspended ceilings. And in a church, it's not that easy to work with classic wall-mounted speakers – the acoustics are difficult and speakers must not be too dominant in the room. A case for sound lines and line arrays.

A sound system with line array speakers is not just a collection of devices, but a work of art of technology, design and sound.

EN 54-24 is a European standard for fire alarm systems. The certification certifies that a certain system meets the requirements and performance criteria of EN 54-24 and therefore functions safely and reliably. EN 54-24 specifies minimum requirements for the design, installation, programming, maintenance and testing of fire alarm systems – it also applies to PA technology.

IP66 is a protection class for electrical devices including speakers. The protection class consists of two digits, each of which indicates certain characteristics:

  • The first digit is the degree of protection against dust. A value of 6 means that the device is fully protected against hand contact and is dustproof. This is the highest regular dust protection.
  • The second digit is the degree of protection against moisture. A value of 6 means that the device is protected against strong water jets, for example in the shower or in heavy rain.

Speakers with an IP66 protection class are therefore particularly well suited for outdoor use, even in dusty and very wet environments.

Our almost invisible line array – thanks to its extremely small width and depth

Our ETS-120SL is a design line array double pack with a height of 1.2 metres. With these line arrays, you can implement very inconspicuous PA solutions in room corners and design-optimised residential and business premises. The sound from these speakers is subtle, yet assertive and purposeful. In conjunction with a corresponding subwoofer and integration into a controller setting, the high-quality sound experience of an entire PA system unfolds. In short: you see nothing, but you hear everything.

Line arrays are priceless for stylish interior design:

the eye does not "hear" in this case – because the sound source is almost invisible.

The "Power over Ethernet (PoE)" network standard makes it possible to supply network devices such as routers, switches or speakers with power and data simultaneously via a single (Ethernet) cable. In this way, you maintain and install network devices more easily and cost-effectively. Without any extra power supply. This allows devices to be installed in remote locations without the need for a separate power supply. It also reduces the risk of cable breaks and compatibility issues, as only one cable is responsible for power and data transmission.

Five big advantages of line arrays

Our core competence, PA technology, is versatile. Line arrays have always proven to be a particularly good choice when the PA application scenario is a little more complicated:

  1. Efficient sound distribution: line arrays efficiently distribute the sound. They adapt flexibly to the geometry of the room and provide for consistent and clear sound distribution.
  2. Space-saving solution: line arrays are compact and fit into the tightest of corners. This makes them an ideal solution for rooms with limited available space. They can be mounted on the ceiling or on the wall at any angle.
  3. Simple control: you control line arrays centrally. This means you can easily and intuitively regulate the volume, sound distribution and sound quality. They are the perfect choice for installers and expert planners who are looking for an easy-to-use solution.
  4. Robust and weatherproof: good line arrays are robust and weatherproof, which makes them an ideal solution for outdoor use. They are protected against the effects of the weather and moisture, making them a good choice for beer gardens or other outdoor catering establishments.
  5. Good price-performance ratio: our line arrays offer an excellent price-performance ratio. They often cover a large frequency spectrum with multiple speaker drivers. They are the perfect choice for installers and expert planners looking for a solution at an attractive price that simultaneously offers high sound quality.

Choosing your column speaker: carefully consider all factors for your PA system

When selecting your column speakers, carefully consider the classic factors of procurement planning. Line arrays must be positioned with great care: the size of the area for which the sound is to be projected, the desired acoustic power, the environmental conditions and the technical requirements of the venue must also be taken into account.

Plastic cabinet vs. aluminium cabinet vs. wooden cabinet for line array speakers

The materials have different advantages and disadvantages:

Plastic as a material for speaker cabinets

Advantages:

  • Lightweight: plastic cabinets are usually light. This makes them easier to transport and install.

  • More favourable price: plastic cabinets tend to be more favourably priced than aluminium cabinets, making them more attractive to budget-conscious customers.

Disadvantages:

  • Less robust: plastic cabinets are usually not as strong as aluminium cabinets and are more susceptible to shock and vibration.
  • Different sound: plastic cabinets can affect the sound quality as they are usually more resonant than aluminium cabinets.

Aluminium as a material for speaker cabinets

Advantages:

  • Highly robust: aluminium cabinets are usually extremely robust and withstand high loads and vibrations.
  • Good sound quality: aluminium cabinets usually have a very low level of resonance, which is very positive for the sound quality.
  • Attractive appearance: aluminium cabinets often have an attractive, high-quality, modern appearance and are well suited for use in public spaces.

Disadvantages:

  • Heavier weight: aluminium cabinets are usually heavier than plastic cabinets and can be more difficult to transport and install.
  • Higher price: aluminium cabinets tend to be more expensive than plastic cabinets and may be less attractive to budget-conscious customers.
  • Slightly more vulnerable to the elements: aluminium cabinets can be more susceptible to corrosion and discoloration due to the effects of the weather. It may be necessary to regularly maintain or protect them to safeguard their function and appearance.

Wood as a material for speaker cabinets

Advantages:

  • Wood is an acoustically inert material. This means that it does not alter or affect the sound of the speakers.
  • In contrast to plastics or metals, wood is able to dampen higher frequencies. This results in column speakers with natural sound reproduction.
  • Wood is able to absorb vibrations. This helps to minimise unwanted resonance and distortion.
  • Wood can offer an attractive and warm aesthetic that fits in well with many interior styles.

Disadvantages:

  • Wood can crack or warp over time, especially when installed in humid surroundings. However, this can be counteracted by the right mix of materials and appropriate protective layers.
  • Wooden cabinets are generally heavier and bulkier than cabinets made from other materials. This can make transport and placement more difficult.
  • Wood is a relatively expensive material compared to plastics or metals.
  • If the wood is not carefully selected and processed, it can introduce unwanted resonances and distortions that can affect the sound. However, we assure you: our wooden cabinets are designed to minimise this effect.
